Biography



Elvin Dainal - Composer  


Well known as Ebin was born in Ranau, Sabah on 19th June 1987. He obtained his early education in SK.Pekan 2, Ranau where he started explore music by joining Marching Band in his school at that time. As his music begins, Ebin has joined many activities in the church of St. Peter Claver, Ranau as a choir member and as a musician. 

Because of his passion in music and moreover encouraged by his family and friends, he proceed to UiTM (Universiti Teknologi MARA) in 2008 to further his study in Diploma in Music (Performance), majoring in Clarinet with En. Bohari Sahalan (LRSM). Then, he gained his idea of writing music by majoring in serious composition, Bachelor in Music Composition (Hons) under the tutelage of composer and pianist, Mr. Ross James Carey from New Zealand.

His composition Lovely Lolen (2011) has been performed by the Bridges Collective Ensemble from Melbourne, Australia during their visit to UiTM in April 2012. Other than that, his compositions Paddy Field (guitar quartet) and Rusod Do Parai / The Spirit of The Paddy (choir + Togunggak) was premiered in the Konsert Muzika Borneo (June 2012) at Auditorium Parcel E, Putrajaya. Again, his orchestral work The Story of Mount Kinabalu (3 movements) has been performed by the UiTM Symphony Orchestra and Paddy Field (guitar quartet) by the UiTM Guitar Quartet ensemble at the 3rd Malaysian Composer Series in Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center (KLPAC) last year in December 2012, conducted by Dr.Tazul Izan Tajuddin. In March 2013, his composition Gongrass I&II have been performed by the Borelias Brass Quintet from University of Alaska (USA) on their visit to Faculty of Music, UiTM.

Elvin's music area included western and Sabahan music focus in all kind of music genre such as popular music, jazz, contemporary and world music.
